Task #7: Cloud Computing

In the case that I had to choose between Dropbox and Google Docs, I would choose Dropbox. The decision to choose Dropbox is based simply on my lifestyle. I have a simple lifestyle. Don't require a lot of storage space. If I were a traveling business man I would probably choose Google Docs because of the document editing format. Dropbox on the other hand is appealing because of the sync ability and the fact that I don't create very many files, I just store them away. Before this task I was completely unaware of what cloud computing actually was. I don't use either Dropbox or Google Docs at this moment, but I may find one or the other very useful in the future.

Task #5: Chilton

For task number five I had fantasized of owning a 1957 Chevy Corvette. Assuming that most owners of this classic sled are responsible and fanatical about the status symbol, I selected the "maintenance" option in the Chilton library. This data base is all too easy to use and navigate through. I was a bit surprised at just how easy it is. The maintenance data is spread out on a convenient graph with automobile parts corresponding with intervals and mileage. For the repair of a 1957 Chevy 'Vette, the Chilton Library provides an easy to use "document tree" with basic descriptions of the vehicle sections which the patron can use to branch out and find repair solutions. I know from patron interaction that the Chilton resource is very useful. Just in case anyone was wondering, the '57 in my daydream was a dark green convertible with vanity plates that read "U WISH" .

Task #4: eReaders

I alwasy prefer books. The real one's. I like the way they smell. I like the weight of them. I like them as objects, the older the better. I like that you can decorate an entire wall with them so that when you stare at the spines, memories and stories are set adrift on the flimsiest of pretense. I love 'em. That being said, if I had to drop some coin on an eReader, I would probably choose one with a touch screen that was app friendly and of course, in color. The Kobo eReader Touch has all of these features. As opposed to the dull, lifeless, egotistical, inferior, stroke-it's-own-ego, shades of gray Kindle, the Kobo eReader waits patiently like Cordouroy for a loving reader to take it home... or something like that.
To download a book to your eReader you must:
1)Use your library card to download Adobe Digital Editions software.
2)Establish an Adobe.Com username and password.
3)Choose a title that you would like to download from the eBook library!
Go Books!! The real ones I mean...

Task #2: The Scavenger Hunt

The scavenger hunt was a fun way to explore the website. I did find some new nooks and crannies in the system that I was unaware of. For Example: discovering the KDL database for finding more books in a series and learning that Hoover is a source for troubleshooting audio downloads. I am pleased with how quickly and user friendly the library website is. Some of the answers in the quiz have changed due to the progression of the services at the library. For example: when the quiz was created, there were only 4 mobile resources and now there are 7 of them. The hunt took me an hour to complete and I thought it was fun. Keep up the good work.

Task #6: Helping Patrons

That was fun. I would've still given away my (beet) salad though. I did answer all of the questions correctly and wasn't really surprised at any of the answers. I feel like I am doing the right thing in the majority of the situations involving patrons at work and this task was helpful.

Task #1: So this is blogging.... ?

My name is Joe and I usually write on paper. This is my very first blog entry and I'm excited about exploring Webolution and learning a few valuable skills along the way. Should I win anything for getting lucky in Webolution I have opted for the Downtown Gift Card which I intend to spend at Suehiro and Triple Play Records. My favorite novel is called Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins and I like turtles. Adieu Bon Ami...
